Vancouver Lake Sailing Club promoting sailing and racing of one-design centerboard boats since 1967 |
More than 50 years and 15000 boats have made the International Lightning a Sailing Legend. This boat is ideally suited for club racing and family daysailing. It has some of the characteristics of both a small sailing dingy (responsiveness) and the stability of a small keel boat. The large spinaker allows for plenty of thrills when the wind comes up. Planing occurs at around 12 knots of wind. The boats are very well built, 15 to 20 year old boats are still very competitive. |

At Vancouver Lake we have ongoing active racing on Sunday afternoons and Tuesday evenings throughout the club's sailing season. The Pacific Northwest Lightning District hosts a series of regattas each year leading to a District Circuit Champion. These regattas occur as far south as Klamath Falls, Oregon and as far North as Southwest Canada. A District Championship regatta occurs every year and serves as a qualifier for the North American Championships. This regatta rotates through all the active clubs in the District. A West Coast Championship regatta occurs every year and alternates between Klamath Falls and San Francisco Bay. |
