2010 Sailing School Season
VLSC is proud to offer an expanded Sailing School Program for 2010. This year's program will offer a total of 16 class sessions in two age categories: Junior (8-12 years) and Youth/Adult (13+). Classes will cover a range of skill levels, from basic Level 1 training through advanced Level 3, including an introduction to sailboat racing (Level 2+).

All classes will be taught in a fun and safe manner by US Sailing-certified instructors. Classes will have 20 hours of instruction time, conducted both on land and on the water. Junior classes will have a maximum enrollment of 8 students per session, and the Youth/Adult classes will have a maximum enrollment of 10 students per session. The cost is $200.00 per student, per session. The schedule for the classes is shown below and can also be found on our website calendar.

The objectives of all Level 1 classes are to give the students the theory and practical skills necessary to:

  • rig your boat for launching
  • safely launch your boat
  • sail your boat both upwind, downwind and perform basic maneuvers
  • dock and retrieve your boat
  • basic boat care and maintenance

This year's program
Youth and adult lessons begin in May and will be taught using the club's Flying Juniors. The FJ is a 2-person boat and is a longtime training boat of choice for most sailing schools. The 2010 program offers Level 1 and 2 training for youth and adult sailors. Both weekday, weekend and evening classes are available.

Junior lessons begin in May. Lessons will be taught using the club's Open Bic sailboats. The 2010 program offers Level 1 through Level 3 training for junior sailors. Both weekday and weekend classes are available.
